An outbreak of kleptomania at a student hostel was not normally the sort of crime that aroused Hercule Poirot’s interest. But when he saw the list of stolen and vandalized items – including a stethoscope, some old flannel trousers, a box of chocolates, a slashed rucksack and a diamond ring found in a bowl of soup – he congratulated the warden, Mrs Hubbard, on a ‘unique and beautiful problem’.
The list made absolutely no sense at all. But, reasoned Poirot, if this was merely a petty thief at work, why was everyone at the hostel so frightened?

One of my favourite novels
Agatha Christie is a genius of crime fiction, I really admire for her cleverness and paced material. I love Poirot and I watched all his movies and episodes, Hickory Dickory Dock is one of my favourite from the series and I wanted to read the book because, as I suspected, is pretty different from the episode I watched.Still I enjoyed both actually, the novel though, published in 1955, has various characters which I found hard to remember their names because I am very bad at it, but the idea of setting this novel at a student hostel where these a brilliant students facing their insecurities and life’s goals, has really hold my interest. Also the many details and different links important in carrying out the investigation that were half replaced or unfortunately completely removed in the series, it took me seriously, and of course Poirot still manages to solve the case brilliantly.

Leer a Agatha Chistie en versión original es volver a contemplar un maravilloso paisaje desde una nueva perspectiva. Si alguno de vosotros piensa que será difícil lo mejor es empezar la novela y dejarte llevar por ella. Siempre hay alguna palabra nueva, pero se marca y la supones por el contexto. ¡No pares, déjate llevar, disfruta del placer de seguir la historia, luego siempre hay tiempo de volver sobre las palabras o expresiones nuevas y profundizar.

Mrs. Nicolites , one of the best characters created by Christie. Absolutely loved her.Overall great book , surprisingly poirot came across very cold and rude initially so much less “amiable”.Honestly there was very less of Poirot here and I thought some of the questions were left unanswered but overall a great book the ending was really unexpected. Another of Christie’s masterpiece no doubt.

Excelente leitura, Agatha Christie não decepciona. Hercule Poirot is just the best detective ever. Recomendo a leitura, vale a pena casa palavra.
