One night, my little sister went missing.

There were searches, appeals. Everyone thought the worst.

She couldn’t, or wouldn’t, say what had happened.

Because sometimes my own little sister scared me to death . . .

  1. Silviah Colombara

Much better than her previous one. Pleasant read with a very dark twist.
Having read the previous novel from C.J. Tudor, The chalk man, I found The taking of Annie Thorne much more enjoyable, better written and with a darker and more interesting twist.I reckon it is inevitable at a certain point to think about Pet Sematary, about the dark, mysterious place where people come back from death but they somehow are changed into a worse, violent and deadly version of themselves. Some elements of the ending and the plot itself were treated a bit too abruptly in my opinion – see Brendan in the end – but overall the novel works, and it was a pleasant read.I liked the scenery, the mine, the remote English countryside, the small village where secrets are hidden.A big improvement since The chalk man, I am glad I gave C.J. Tudor a second chance after not really liking her first work.

    Blatant rip-off of Pet Sematary
I purchased it just because Richard Armitage narrates the audiobook. Well written, but I’m not impressed because the author lacks of originality: this it just a reinterpretation of Stephen King’s Pet Sematary, so I found it predictable and therefore boring despite Armitage’s great (as usual) performance. I don’t recommend it to true lovers of the genre.

  3. K Morrissey

Absolutely captivating!(If you are a fan of CJ and buying all of the books like I did, beware that The Hiding Place is the same book, just with a different title. The UK and US versions have different titles but the story is the same. I just gifted my extra, so no biggie!)

  4. Trish

Excellent book! Very hard to put down, huge fan of CJ Tudor

  5. mafe

Gruselig, spannend und völlig unvorhersehbar. Allerdings wird es erst im letzten drittel wirklich fesseln und auch grauslich. Mehr Horror als Psychothriller, daher nicht realistisch

  6. Arantza

This book is a page-turner. If you like Stephen King, you will like CJ Tudor.

The taking of Annie thorneBy C.J.TudorThe chalkman 2017, debut novel was her top one novel but not anymore. Because the taking of Annie thorne already took its place.Summary:The story revolves around a small town called Arnhill.Protagonist Joe thorne gets an Email’I know what happened to your sister, its happening again’Startled by the Email he visits his childhood town again and revisits his childhood, his love, his life. But that’s not it something bad, something evil haunts him. Something that made him to evacuate the town earlier.Whenever he tries to reveal the dark secret, he is held by something(no spoiler😁)The story alternates between joe’s childhood and now, believe me end of every chapter leaves you surprised/thrilled and there are lots of cliffhangers and unpredictable plot twist that leaves you mind fecked.Story: 5 starsCharacter building: 4.5 starsPlot twists: 5 starsWord building: 4.5starsReading level: easy
